Message from the Secretary General
This year’s Annual Conference of the European Maritime Law Organisation is a must for everyone in the shipping industry involved with competition or regulatory policy matters. It will take place almost a year to the day after the old world of liner conferences came to an end in the EU and at a time when attention is focused on the worst economic recession the world has ever seen.
Meanwhile, EU competition law has become fully applicable to all parts of the shipping industry. We will be hearing from a number of eminent maritime competition law specialists how they and their clients have been coping with the task of assessing their commercial agreements in the light of the new rules and what difficulties have been encountered in practice in interpreting the European Commission’s guidelines on maritime competition law.
We will examine the impending changes in the regime for liner consortia and we will also look at some equally important developments in the field of state aid, the application of competition rules to specific sectors and developments in carbon trading and the broader aspects of the EU’s maritime transport policy as they affect the shipping industry in particular.
This conference is intended for:
- in-house legal advisers and compliance officers
- competition lawyers specialising in maritime competition law
- general shipping law practitioners
- competition and shipping economists
- academics and policy advisers.
